\n The study from the Alliance for Biking and Walking ranks Houston in the top half of cities when it comes to how much it spends on biking and walking projects, but the number of people killed in cycling and pedestrian accidents remains high.
\n The Alliance’s Jeffrey Miller says Houston has about 20 pedestrian fatalities for every 10,000 walking commuters. That’s over double the national average for big cities.
\n “So typically we’re seeing these high numbers in cities that have very wide and high-speed roads, so it makes it very difficult for a pedestrian, especially a pedestrian who might be moving slower because they’re elderly, they’re young.”

\n There was a good turnout for the “pub-crawl” bike ride to pay respects for our lost friend, riding brother, and long-time Violet Crown member BILL REAMS. Beer and bikes, it’s what he liked.
\n The leisurely ride left from Nelo’s Bike Shop around 2:30 on a beautiful Saturday afternoon and made its way south to the Draught House where more of Bill’s friends awaited. Folks sat outside and enjoyed tasty craft brews from the Draught House’s wide selection (a great venue for the event) and visited. A journal was passed around for people to record their stories about Bill. They also had a chance to visit with Bill’s wife Linda and son Ryan. 2 Charged in Connection with Cyclist’s Death (Video)<\/a><\/h2>\n

\n EDINBURG – Two 23-year-old men were charged in connection with the death of an Edinburg cyclist.
\n Emilio Gomez is facing charges of intoxication manslaughter, accident involving death and tampering with physical evidence. Nelson Cantu was charged with failure to report a felonly.
\n According to court documents, the two men admitted they were in the vehicle that fatally hit cyclist Eduardo Arguelles early Thursday morning.
\n CHANNEL 5 NEWS got a copy of court records that state the two men were headed home after a night of drinking. Investigators said Gomez’s truck hit Arguelles so hard that his body hit the windshield and flew back into the bed of the truck. Court documents state a driver behind Gomez witnessed the accident. \n Last Saturday\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Scenic ride was really fun and again we had a great turnout.\u00c2\u00a0 We had 18 riders at one point. We all stayed together on our way to downtown and on the way back the group broke up into a faster and slower group.\u00c2\u00a0 This two group system really worked out well and we will continue to have a faster and slower group.\u00c2\u00a0 The faster group can go as fast as they can and the second group will be for those that just want a good workout but want to ride at a talking pace.\u00c2\u00a0 Both groups had a great time.
