In early September I headed down to get in some quiet road cycling and exploring, since the busy season (and vehicle traffic) doesn&#8217;t pick up until the October through April months. The heat can be extreme this time of year since you&#8217;re on the border of Texas and Mexico and this is a desert, but I lucked out and had some cooler weather this time around.<br \/>\nTwo nations meet here in West Texas and the mighty Rio Grande serves as the boundary. Drastic changes in elevation lend to create an out of this world, varied micro-climate experience while you pedal through your day and you&#8217;re rewarded with vistas and&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hcbtc.com\/blog\/event\/sunday-october-5th-ride-leader-needed\/\">Sunday October 5th Patriot \/ National Day of Service Ride<\/a><\/h2>\n<h3>Hill Country Bicycle Touring Club<\/h3>\n<p>Sunday, October 5th\u00c2\u00a0 Meet at 8a.m. @ Brackenridge Park @ Joske\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Pavilion Celebrate Patriot Day \/ National Day of Service and Remembrance with an easy bicycle ride from Brackenridge Park\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Joske\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Pavilion along quiet downtown streets, through the Pearl Brewery and King William area. This is an informal celebration of Patriot Day and the National Day of Service and Remembrance. All are welcome.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 We will pause to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice on 9\/11\/01 with a private tour of the San Antonio Fire Museum.\u00c2\u00a0 The museum is at the Central Fire Station behind the Alamo. Our tour will start around 9:30-10am.\u00c2\u00a0 Feel free to have non riding family members meet us there.
