Day 1 – Houston: Ditching Hicktown for H-Town

\nToday kind of sucked. It rained for about 30% of my 92 miles – light drizzle. I was soaking wet, and my bike and body were covered in sand. Also, a large portion of the road I was traveling was on a busy highway. Even for a more rural route, the traffic was relentless between Beaumont and Houston. I also had to bike on a busy road without a shoulder, side by side with commuters as far as the eye can see. At least there was a lot of traffic lights that kept the traffic tame and the speeds low. This was the only time I thanked god for traffic lights. Also, I was lucky to have a wonderful host from WarmShowers, Jeff and Dotty. They fed me really good, and treated me like a son. I feel lucky and blessed, and my faith in humanity has improved tremendously.
