Transportation officials planning a bike lane for SPI causeway<\/a><\/h2>\n

SOUTH PADRE ISLAND, RGV \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Pete Sepulveda, Jr., executive director of the Cameron County Regional Mobility Authority, says it is \u00e2\u20ac\u0153extremely doable\u00e2\u20ac\u009d to build a dedicated bike lane on the South Padre Island Causeway.
\nSpeaking to SPI economic development leaders on Tuesday, Sepulveda said he will make the case for such a project at CCRMA\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s July board meeting. He pointed out that there was a lot of support for a bike lane to be built on the planned second causeway to SPI.

His comments on the Riverside and Lamar intersection should be taken with a grain of salt as his biggest complaint is “In this example there is no safe way of exiting the junction to head East or North”.\u00c2\u00a0 He assumes up is North but it is actually West, so he says there is no way of heading West on Riverside or North on Lamar, which is true but that is not where the majority of the cycle traffic would be here.\u00c2\u00a0 Northbound traffic is much more likely to take the pedestrian\/cycle bridge and westbound traffic is more likely to take the hike and bike trail under Lamar (why would you wait at the light if you can just go under …<\/p>\n
