With my 956 mile goal for August I wanted to go on a ride longer than the average distance I think I will need to ride to reach it. The average based on 25 biking days is 36 miles per ride and today I rode 42.15 miles<\/strong>. I adjusted the “FM1960 to FM686 – Back” route to add a couple of miles in Walden and at the turn around point at FM686. Rather than take the weather screen shots in Huffman like I normally do when I bike this direction I took them at the Dayton Food and Fuel store at FM686 and FM1960 after I went inside to refill my water bottle with ice and water.<\/p>\n

I am off to a good start for August with 120+ miles. I plan on another 40+ mile ride tomorrow.<\/p>\n

The weather was hot 99.9 at my home weather station at the end of the ride. The humidity was 36% which dried up my perspiration quickly as long as I was moving. When I stopped at the Dayton Food and Fuel store it started rolling down my arms but as soon as I was biking west to Huffman it dried up. The breeze was not very strong so I was able to ride at a steady pace of 16 to 18 mph. I got a decent start time leaving home at 10:14 and returning at 1:49.<\/p>\n

At the rest stop in Huffman at the Chevron (30.4 mile point) I ate a snack and drank Powerade. The breeze under the pump canopy was pleasant drying me off before I left at 1:01. As I was getting ready to leave the Huffman VFD truck pulled into the station a man got out and as he walked around the front of the fire truck I could see both of his legs were prostheses. I never saw this before. He walked to the side of the fire truck and got a medical bag out and went inside the store. One of the ladies that work there was having a medical problem. As I stood up to finish my drink a dark gray pickup with emergency lights flashing pulled behind the fire truck. The lady who got out was wearing a Huffman VFD shirt. She went inside also. I followed a few minutes later to refill my water bottle before leaving. I could hear them talking about high blood pressure. I went back outside to start riding home. As I was about to leave the station a lady that works there pulled in. I think she is a relative of the lady who was having the medical problem.<\/p>\n

Biking west on FM1960 I was able to raise my average speed to 15.0 mph and I kept it there until the 40 mile point. It dropped down the last 2 miles as I rode on the residential streets in Kingwood.<\/p>\n
