Today’s ride kicked off September biking. I chose the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman Extended” route but extended it even further by adding some streets in Elm Grove Village in Kingwood. I rode 35.67 miles<\/strong>. Usually this route is a couple of miles shorter. I started riding at 12:04 after watching stage 13 of the Vuelta a Espana which was a long one. With the late start the temperature had time to heat up to 92 degrees. The partly cloudy sky was nice and the wind was not too strong. After yesterday’s ride while I was in the shower a rain storm passed through which would have soaked me if I was still out on the bike.<\/p>\n

Nothing unusual on the ride today. I arrived at the Huffman Chevron for a rest stop at 1:39 after biking 21.8 miles. My Elemnt screen and the weather while at the station.<\/p>\n

The wind was from the NE at 9 mph which increased the energy when I rode north on FM2100 from Old Atascocita Road. Fortunately there are a lot of very tall pine trees lining the road to break the wind until the last 1\/2 mile or so. I bought a large blue PowerAde to go with a Clif bar and snack crackers. Sitting in the shade the breeze came through some time to help the cool down process. One of the ladies from the station was lowering the prices on the big sign. She used a long pole with a suction cup to remove the old digits and stick the new ones up. I have another lady take a long time to make changes but today she was quick an accurate from the ground up as far as the stick would extend. I refilled my water bottle and rolled away at 2:13 for the final segment of 13+ miles. I finished the ride at 3:13 with an overall average speed of 14.5 miles. The maximum average speed was 14.8 mph but it fell as I made my way through the Kingwood streets and traffic.<\/p>\n

I could feel a coolness in the weather which might be from the hurricane that came ashore this morning in the Florida panhandle or maybe because fall is only 19 days away. Tomorrow the high temperature is expected to be 90 degrees with a very low chance of rain. I plan or biking.<\/p>\n
