Labor Day holiday dawned with great weather for a bike ride. I set off on the “New Caney – Gene Campbell Road” route bicycling a total of 37.3 miles<\/strong>, the longest ride so far in September. I started at 11:02 AM, kind of. I actually started about 5 minutes before that but the Elemnt computer and the PowerPod power meter decided to not talk to each other. Around 6\/10 of a mile into the ride the Elemnt jumped to 1.4 miles and the PowerPod registered over 4000 watts. I knew something wasn’t working so I stopped the ride on the Elemnt and started a new one. After a few tenths of a mile the Elemnt and PowerPod were happily working together and stayed that for the rest of the ride.<\/p>\n

The ride was the usual with holiday traffic light but several businesses open that I thought would be closed. Maybe they were catching up from Harvey the Horrible.<\/p>\n

As I rode I felt the had a fall touch to it with 86 degrees at the start (70% humidity) and at the finish (2:09 PM) it was 91 degrees with 60% humidity. A mostly cloudy sky let some sun through and the light 5 mph NE breeze was not much trouble bicycling in.<\/p>\n

At 25.2 miles I stopped at the Valero station on FM 1314 and Sorters Road for a rest. They had a sign on the door listing the fuels they had and inside I bought a large orange Gatorade to re-energize me for the 12+ miles to finish the ride. About 30 minutes after I arrived I got back on the bike rested and ready. The Gatorade provided enough sugar to get me home.<\/p>\n
