While I waited for the temperature to get above 60 I worked outside replacing the fabric on our patio cover. That took about 45 minutes and the temperature was above 60 so I got ready to ride the “Kingwood – New Caney – Oakhurst” route. I chose this route because of the late start (1:30 pm) and the shorter distance: 30.18 miles<\/strong> actual ride distance. This improves March to 325.1 miles<\/strong>, leaving 259.9 miles<\/strong> to reach my goal for the month.<\/p>\n

Weather: start 64 (48% humidity), finish 67 (44% humidity), partly cloudy, wind NW 8 mph, gusts 17 mph.<\/p>\n

With the chilly weather I bundled up for the bike ride: shorts, leg warmers, thermal long sleeve jersey, short sleeve jersey, windbreaker jacket, and full finger gloves. I needed every one of those biking to the north into the wind. At the u-turn under I-69\/US59 by Caney Creek I felt the difference of the same wind but as a tailwind. I picked up my speed and no longer was my attention on pedaling hard into the wind. My average speed improved topping out at 14.9 mph until I started back into Kingwood through Kings Manor.<\/p>\n

One cyclist was out braving the wind chill in Woodridge Forest. I suspect he was heading home while I was around 5 miles into the bike ride.<\/p>\n

The two school districts I ride through are on spring break this week so no traffic near the schools I pass. I finished the bike ride at 3:37 pm.<\/p>\n

Slightly warmer tomorrow (Tuesday) according to the forecast. Maybe I can lighten up the riding wardrobe.<\/p>\n
