More beautiful weather for today’s bike ride. Weather during the bike ride: 11:39 am start 80 (53% humidity), clear, wind N 6 mph. 2:51 pm finish 84 (48% humidity), clear, wind variable 6 mph. It was so nice I left the long sleeve jersey at home and wore shorts with a short sleeve jersey. It was nice for the wind to be less than yesterday.<\/p>\n

To try to reach my goal of 40+ miles I chose the “May Park Community Center – Huffman” route and biked 41.55 miles<\/strong>, the same as yesterday. Very unusual for two days to be the same distance on different routes. This increases April biking to 563.6 miles<\/strong> leaving 36.4 miles<\/strong> to reach my 600 mile goal.<\/p>\n

I wasn’t sure if I would see another cyclist along the route but I saw a cyclist riding west over Lake Houston while I rode to the east.<\/p>\n

The route is one of the few that takes me into Liberty County but only by a couple tenths of a mile. I stopped at the county line and took these photos. The first is before I rode into Liberty County and the second is returning back to Harris County. Notice the size of the signs.<\/p>\n

While I standing along side of the road after taking the photos I heard the train whistle to the west. It was around 1:20 pm and the Amtrak train could be the source so I waited and took these photos as it headed east to Beaumont and finally New Orleans.<\/p>\n

After the train passed I got back on the Canyon and rode to the May Community Center. From there I headed west to FM 2100. Arriving at the traffic light I waited for it to change and finally gave up and went north to make a u-turn and cross the road. About the time I was going to do that traffic increased and a couple of cars arrived to trip the traffic light I had left. I would have been ahead to wait at the traffic light.<\/p>\n

The ride south on FM 2100 went quickly with the help of the light wind and when I arrived at FM 1960 I stopped at the Huffman Chevron for a short break. I refilled my water bottle and ate a snack I brought. While I was there I saw my first pair of “love bugs” of the season. On an earlier ride I saw one but not a pair. I hope the swarms are small this season. After the rest I rode west on FM 1960 with a nice tempo. I was able to increase my average speed to 15.0 mph and then 15.1 mph. I held the 15.0 mph average until I crossed Kingwood Drive where it start to decrease as I made my way to the finish. The Kingwood High School traffic had not started yet and I crossed Kingwood Drive without stopping for traffic.<\/p>\n
