The initiative is adding about 19 miles of new bike lanes. Many are in underserved communities where people rely on their bikes for work and errands.<\/p>\n

In April 2018, Commissioner Rodney Ellis announced he was committing $10 million in Precinct One funds for new on-street bike lanes that could be developed in Houston over a 12-month time frame.<\/p>\n

In BRAIN\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s April 1 issue, BPSA executive director Ray Keener wrote a pair of pieces, Just how many bike shops are there, anyway? and Is the number of shops shrinking? Both articles are based on conversations with industry consultant and self-described \u00e2\u20ac\u0153data wizard\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Christopher Georger and his company, Georger Data Services (GDS). GDS maintains a database of more than 7,000 U.S. bicycle retailers based on bike brands\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 dealer lists.<\/p>\n

As it happens, I interviewed Georger around the same time as Keener had spoken to him, but my queries led in a different direction. I am less concerned with the total number of bike shops than I am with 1) what those seven thousand bike shops mean for the industry, 2) whose bikes are in those shops, and, ultimately, 3) what it means to be a shop in the Bike 3.0 era. …\n\"\"\/<\/p>\n

Heart Attacks and stuff<\/a><\/h2>\n

A buddy just forwarded me an email from the Austin and Central Texas Cycling group that says that 2 riders died of heart attack during last Friday’s Fredericksburg ride. Given that most of the guys I ride with are over 50, that news really hits home.<\/p>\n

So I’m wondering, how many of y’all are CPR certified? Would CPR make a difference if someone is having a heart attack on the trail? Short of carrying a portable defib in my CamelBak, what are the best precautions to take? …<\/p>\n
