The wind won’t let up. April fades into my memory and windy bike rides is what I think of first. I headed out at 11:37 AM on the “Atascocita – Walden – Huffman” route to the south. This put me into the 17 mph and 28 mph gusts wind. What a way to wrap April. I biked 32.09 miles<\/strong> which moved April to 817.7 miles<\/strong>, the most miles in a month since October 2018 when I rode 1054.53 miles<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Other than the wind today’s weather was great for biking: start 82 (75% humidity), overcast, wind S 17 mph gusts 28 mph. Finish 86 (65% humidity), mostly cloudy, wind S 23 mph gusts 37 mph. That’s right! The wind was gusting at 37 mph<\/strong> as I finished the bike ride at 2:05 PM. Clothing wise I wore shorts and a short sleeve jersey with sunscreen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Fighting the wind every time the route turned south slowed me down. The worst place was riding over Lake Houston on the FM 1960 causeway. Biking east wasn’t as bad as going west. East bound I was shielded some by the solid concrete guardrail but west bound the wind had a clear shot at me across 5 lanes of concrete. Although the wind was from the side the gusts as I headed west pushed me around a lot. Thank goodness I wasn’t riding my Stradalli with the 55mm rims which caught the wind a lot more than the 42mm rims on the Canyon Endurace CF SLX I ride now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Once I got to the west side of the lake the route turned to the north and a tailwind prevailed among the houses and trees. This slide show has the weather screenshots and three photos of the white cap waves on the south side of the causeway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
