How an afternoon bike ride with President Bush became a powerful support network of wounded veterans<\/a><\/h2>\n

It started with a former president visiting a rehabilitation center for injured service members in San Antonio. President George W. Bush stopped by the Center for the Intrepid at Brooke Army Medical Center in 2009, just a few months after leaving office, and met Sgt. Maj. Chris Self.<\/p>\n

Self had been shot in the leg in combat in Baghdad in 2005. He was being fitted for a new cycling prosthesis that day, and when the president learned about Self\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s passion for mountain biking, he invited the veteran to his ranch for a ride.<\/p>\n

He rises a little earlier, usually at 6:30 a.m. and has breakfast. Instead of showering and getting ready at the house, he packs a bag. He\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s learned how to neatly fold his suits so they don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t wrinkle on his way to work.<\/p>\n

By 7:30 a.m. Ruiz leaves his house in Timbergrove. He\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s ditched his car \u00e2\u20ac\u201d and instead hops on his gray Cannondale bike.<\/p>\n

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (TNN) – Biking around Downtown Wichita Falls has become commonplace.<\/p>\n

The Wichita Falls Public Library is now offering bike locks for library visitors.<\/p>\n

The library says people often bring their bikes inside to try to keep them safe.<\/p>\n
