I work for Transportation Alternatives and Families for Safe Streets, two organizations dedicated to keeping cyclists safe. And we &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230; Lastly we know these \u00e2\u20ac\u0153quality of life\u00e2\u20ac\u009d laws are disproportionately enforced in communities of color and in lower income communities. In Austin and Dallas, Texas, for example, mandatory helmet laws were either repealed or changed after disturbing racial disparities became evident based on who was ticketed for not wearing a helmet. The rhythm of cars overhead, trundling down the notoriously congested highway, is almost drowned out by chatter from the cyclists and the music blaring from speakers mounted on their bikes. The ride began in 2009 and highlights the perceived rivalry of the roadway: cars vs bikes. Four wheels vs two. Using hints given to them, bikers will embark on a scavenger hunt that will take them to grocery stores throughout Deep Ellum and downtown Dallas. At the end, the groceries will be donated to the food bank at The Stewpot for Thanksgiving dinner. The event is free to participate in, however, participants are expected to purchase at least $15-$20 in groceries each. Oh, and bring your own bike too.
