Austin spends $883K on electric bikes as customers opt for easier ride<\/a><\/h2>\n

The city of Austin will spend more than $883,000 to purchase 325 electric bicycles after a study showed riders overwhelmingly preferred them to traditional bicycles that require more pedaling to move around town.<\/p>\n

Austin City Council members approved the purchase Thursday through a contract with B-Cycle LLC, which has been the supplier of bikes for the city\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s bike share program since 2013. The cost also covers docking stations.<\/p>\n
