Day 1 – Brackettville, TX: Easing back into bicycle touring<\/h4>\n

Wednesday March 24, 2021, 34 miles (54 km) – Total so far: 34 miles (54 km)\nShort ride today. Took advantage of the complimentary breakfast at the hotel this morning before I checked out. Left my hotel in Del Rio just after 10 am. Saw a group of bicycle tourist at the stop light across from the hotel on Veterans Blvd. A short distance from the hotel I was back on the Southern Tier. It felt good to be back on the tour.<\/p>\n

Day 18: Rest Day<\/h4>\n

Thursday March 18, 2021\nA well deserved rest day in El Paso, TX gives us a chance to rest our legs and be on the lookout for more tacos. We started the day by working on our bikes. Jon, getting a new chain, rear derailleur cable and some brake pads. Nicholas, only needed a cleaning of his chain and a brake adjustment. George, Mike and myself only needed some cleaning and chain lube.<\/p>\n

Then it was time to get serious. Nicholas, went through his 1 million items in his panniers and was able to shed 10 pounds of gear. A short walk to the post office, followed by a stop for some tacos. Friday March 19, 2021\nToday was a tough ride. 96 miles into a headwind the entire way. Luckily, Mike \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Machine\u00e2\u20ac\u009d Dieterle was able to pull us along the way. So far, Texas is not impressive to look at. The route took us on frontage roads that pass through several goat towns now, mostly due to the nearby interstate.
