Fiesta Bike Parade draws hundreds of cyclists to King William<\/a><\/h2>\n

In an event that hearkened back to the pre-pandemic rides that drew hundreds of people on bikes to downtown streets, a procession of cyclists wove through King William on Saturday for the inaugural Fiesta Bike Parade.<\/p>\n

More than 200 riders started at Brackenridge High School and rode a meandering route through the King William and Lavaca neighborhoods south of downtown. Local bike clubs SATX Social Ride, San Antonio Lady Riders, Black Girls Do Bike, Odd Fellas, and Wild Dawgs supported the ride.<\/p>\n

Day 10: Johnson City to Austin<\/h4>\n

Thursday April 22, 2021, 56 miles (90 km) – Total so far: 734 miles (1,182 km)\nSo I imagine I will probably be eating these words, but I think I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122m coming to terms with the wind. This morning as I left Johnson City and turned right onto my road, boom, there it was right in my face. This time instead of growling at it, I felt like I just inwardly shrugged and said, \u00e2\u20ac\u0153 well there you are.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d I guess the wind is going to do with the wind is going to do and I need to live with it. So, let\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s see how far I get with that attitude.<\/p>\n

Day 11 – Rest Day: Fun in Austin<\/h4>\n

Friday April 23, 2021\nThe rain was supposed to hold off today until 1 o\u00e2\u20ac\u2122clock but when I left the apartment at 8o\u00e2\u20ac\u2122clock it was a soft drizzle. It stayed that way until about 1 o\u00e2\u20ac\u2122clock when it picked up in intensity. The thunderstorms were brief and not that intense. All in all, it was a great day to be off of the bike.<\/p>\n

Day 12: Austin to Buescher state park<\/h4>\n

Saturday April 24, 2021, 60 miles (97 km) – Total so far: 795 miles (1,279 km)\nSo it was with renewed energy in my legs and renewed spirit that I left my Airbnb at 7:30 this morning. My ride through Austin was very smooth with little traffic out. After an overcast day with rain yesterday today Dawned crystal clear. The winds were in my favor for the most part and riding was good. In fact, The riding was excellent on back roads with very little traffic.<\/p>\n

Austin is known for its burgeoning Tech industry and there was evidence of that as I rode east. There were huge technology company buildings and many more either being built or in the planning stages according to the signs on the ground. Also lots of houses going up.<\/p>\n

The state park is very nice and it was good to find a place in the shade because it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s in the low 80s right now. It makes me …<\/p>\n

Day 13: Buescher State Park – Navasota<\/h4>\n

Sunday April 25, 2021, 92 miles (147 km) – Total so far: 886 miles (1,426 km)\nI knew today was going to be hot and I had a long ways to go so I set the alarm for 6 o\u00e2\u20ac\u2122clock and was on the road at 7:18. I deviated from the ACA route from Bastrop to the La Grange and rode on Highway 71 which turned out to be a good decision. The shoulder was very wide, even when there were two rumble strips, and traffic was light.<\/p>\n

It was just a delightful day for riding a bike. The sky was clear, the temperature was close to 90 so it was warm in the afternoon. The wind was not a factor and most of the riding was on country roads with very little traffic. I was surprised to see my final climbing stats for the day. There were a lot of rollers but they were not as intense as previous days and there was large portions of level riding today.<\/p>\n

I have to say that I enjoy this part of Texas much more than the western half. Everything was …<\/p>\n
