In fact, transportation experts say more than half of serious car accidents happen within five miles of the home, and nearly 70% happen within 10 miles of home.<\/p>\n<p>But, it&#8217;s not just car crashes. An avid cyclist named Larry Sears says a freak accident nearly cost him his life, but then a doctor he&#8217;d never met took a chance on him. Dr. George Al Shamy describes it as &quot;a pretty devastating brain injury.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Sears was out doing what &#8230;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcbd.com\/2021\/07\/01\/mae-simmons-bike-trails-see-improvements-thanks-96k-grant\/\">Mae Simmons bike trails to see improvements thanks to $96k grant<\/a><\/h2>\n<h4>By Camelia Juarez | www.kcbd.com<\/h4>\n<p>LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) &#8211; Dunbar lake mountain biking trails will soon be upgraded thanks to a total $96,200 dollar grant from Texas Parks and Wildlife, and support from the city.<\/p>\n<p>There are no other trails like this unless you travel as far as Palo Duro, but cyclists claim these trails are not bike or pedestrian friendly.<\/p>\n<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153It\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s easy to catch a flat out here, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s easy to break your tire. (WLNS)\u00e2\u20ac\u201c If you haven\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t worked out recently\u00e2\u20ac\u00a6 be prepared to feel like a slacker. 19 students and recent graduates from the University of Texas are biking 4,000 miles across the country, and Thursday they stopped in Lansing.<\/p>\n<p>The group started their trip June 4th and are on day 27 of 70. The group is apart of the non-profit \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Texas 4,000 for cancer.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/p>\n<p>Usually the group will ride from Austin, Texas to Anchorage, Alaska. The counters help monitor usage along the trail system. Resident and visitor use of the outdoor trails surged as many indoor gyms and recreational facilities were closed during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>While trail use is subject to weather conditions, much of Campion is available for recreational use.
