Some of that money will go toward filling \u00e2\u20ac\u0153critical gaps\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in the city\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 2011 bike plan. The city is also trying extend the bike network\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s reach and connect it to more destinations. My ride today was quite enjoyable after I got away from the city. But I got a big nail into the tire 5 miles into the ride. Image: The Trail Foundation<\/p>\n<p>If you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re an Austin old-timer, what we\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re about to tell you sounds insultingly simple \u00e2\u20ac\u201d but did you know the city\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s famously lush Hike-and-Bike Trail wasn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t always so green? If you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122re one of the many people that moved here yesterday, you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122d have no idea that much of the current tree cover shading many sections of the trail, particularly in the downtown area, is technically artificial in its placement \u00e2\u20ac\u201d the majority planted no earlier than the 1970s by the Town Lake Beautification Committee and famously &#8230;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h1>Texas Biking from Twitter<\/h1>\n<p><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Lots of <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CityOfDallas?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@CityOfDallas<\/a> trail connection gaps we can fix.
