Royalist Club donates Christmas bikes to Adams Elementary students<\/a><\/h2>\n

The Royalist Social and Civic Club of Port Arthur made sure several students in the Port Arthur Independent School District enjoyed a happy holiday season.<\/p>\n

Group members donated more than a dozen bicycles Tuesday to Adams Elementary School, adding it was a privilege to award the bicycles to deserving students.<\/p>\n

I remember it like it was yesterday.<\/p>\n

I was in 5th grade at St. Michael\u2019s Academy, an elementary school located a few blocks from downtown San Antonio. When the 3 o\u2019clock bell rang, I would gather my books and head for town, where I\u2019d walk from store to store, window-wishing, before dropping my nickel in the Nolan Street bus and head for home.<\/p>\n

It was on one of those school day afternoons in late October that I saw it for the first time.<\/p>\n

The department store at the corner of Alamo and Commerce Streets in Alamo Plaza had put up its Christmas displays. As I walked by, I couldn\u2019t believe my eyes. There, in the main window, was the most beautiful bicycle I\u2019d ever seen.<\/p>\n
