Recently, a photographer traversed the space to get photos before the water park is transformed into a car dealership. This week, another San Antonian transformed the former water park into a personal BMX park.<\/p>\n<p>John Castillo, 30, snuck into the abandoned water park with friends to bike this week. It will transform 11 miles of the Alaz\u00e1n, Apache, Martinez and San Pedro creeks, restoring natural bird and aquatic habitats that were paved over for flood-control projects during the 1950s and \u201860s. &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230; Bexar County and the city are local partners on the project, which is expected to improve water quality in the creeks, as well as downstream sections of the river that flow through the South Side, and provide natural beauty and recreation. With the rapid growth in the city of Austin, transportation officials needed to change the plan to better accommodate residents regarding their transportation needs.
