AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR\/KCIT) \u2014 Solana Beach-based property owner and business leader Daniel Powell is making an almost 2500 mile bike ride for charity.<\/p>\n

Powell\u2019s alter ego, philanthropic superhero Captain Challenge is currently cycling cross country, where he started off in Chicago and will finish in Santa Monica.<\/p>\n

Riding 66 miles a day in frigid winter temperatures, Powell will make several stops along the way including St. Louis, Flagstaff, Joplin, Oklahoma City, Albuquerque, and right here in Amarillo. …<\/p>\n

Thursday February 24, 2022\nMisty freezing rain in the morning so I decided to stay put.<\/p>\n

Friday February 25, 2022, 38 km (24 miles) – Total so far: 1,857 km (1,154 miles)\nStill chilly and overcast. Did a short day to the next town on the route. The weather is supposed to get back to more normal temperatures on Sunday (15c to 25c all next week).<\/p>\n

Stopped in to a local bike shop (Hill Country Bicycle, Fredericksburg) and got some minor work done.<\/p>\n

Tomorrow will be another short day to the next town on the route if it’s not too bad out there.<\/p>\n

John Elwood McKay Jr. (54 years) Fort Worth, Texas: On February 16, 2022, we were heartbroken with the unexpected death of John Elwood McKay, Jr. as a result of injuries sustained during a cycling accident. John had developed a recent love for cycling after receiving a bike on his 50 birthday and had just become a founding member of the Los Hombres Perdidos Cycling Club. Every day was an adventure with John. He loved nothing more than making those around him happy with his lightheartedness and sense of humor. John was also a sports enthusiast and enjoyed cheering for LSU, the Saints, the Cowboys, the Texas Rangers, and most of all his children, Jacob and Carly. No one was louder or prouder than him on the sidelines of their football, baseball, volleyball, or soccer games. Out of all his passions, John’s greatest one was his family.
