Video: Prominent Galveston doctor killed while riding her bike, police say; Investigators are seeking answers<\/a><\/h2>\n

GALVESTON, Texas \u2013 Galveston police say two people driving to watch Friday\u2019s sunrise at the end of the Seawall discovered the body of 67-year-old Dr. Nancy Hughes.<\/p>\n

Investigators say Hughes\u2019 bicycle was next to her. The two people tried calling for help but Hughes died from her injuries before receiving aid.<\/p>\n

The well-known doctor specialized in osteoporosis and internal medicine. According to her website, she\u2019s the second-generation physician \u201cproviding care for the Galveston community.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her father, Dr. Edward James Lefeber also provided care to the people of Galveston back in 1939, the website stated.<\/p>\n

Nancy Lefeber Hughes, a well-known and respected island doctor, died Friday morning in what police said was a hit-and-run crash on Seawall Boulevard.<\/p>\n

Hughes\u2019 sudden death shocked and saddened Galveston residents, many of whom were patients at her private practice on Holiday Drive on the island\u2019s East End.<\/p>\n

Islanders mourned not only the loss of a woman held in seemingly universal high regard, but of one a very few independent physicians on the island.<\/p>\n

No arrests had been made Friday and police said they were seeking the public\u2019s help to find the driver involved in the crash.<\/p>\n
