San Antonio cyclist\u2019s death prompts closer look at \u2018tricky intersection\u2019 along Salado Creek Greenway<\/a><\/h2>\n

Craig Gulledge, a brawny, bearded cyclist and spirited competitor in the San Antonio Highland Games, was pedaling home on the Salado Creek Greenway less than an hour before the popular hike-and-bike trail officially closed at dusk.<\/p>\n

But he never made it. Gulledge, 53, died while trying to cross an unusual and hazardous intersection where the trail meets a one-lane commercial access road by the entrance of the Los Patios retail and dining complex. His death is one of three local bicycle fatalities reported in March.<\/p>\n

In a statement, Gulledge\u2019s widow and three children said they hope city and state officials will improve safety at the location. …<\/p>\n

In the latest installment of our occasional conversations with Tarrant County newsmakers, UT-Arlington architecture professor Hyesun Jeong explores the challenges of building more \u201cgreen infrastructure\u201d \u2014 defined as man-made structures that imitate natural systems, such as wetlands that recycle water \u2014 in North Texas.<\/p>\n
