I slept well at Seminole Canyon State Park at primitive site #44. Houston\u2019s bike infrastructure is being pieced together with new projects on the horizon<\/a><\/h2>\n

From southeast Houston to west of downtown, the Bayou City’s bike infrastructure is getting beefed up.\n\"\"\/<\/p>\n

Houston’s segmented network of bike lanes, trails and bayou greenways is slowly but surely taking even more shape with two major projects on the horizon\u2014and even more coming up.<\/p>\n

Dignitaries on Saturday will officially open a long-anticipated segment of the Sims Bayou Greenway in southeast Houston, which will create a crucial connection from Glenbrook Park to Interstate 45. The relatively small 1.5-mile segment will help form a continuous 5-mile trail from Park Place’s Milby Park to Stuart Park off Bellfort Street when factoring in existing trails to the east and west of the project.<\/p>\n

Texas Parks & Wildlife Will Conduct Feasibility Study Of State Park Status For Northeast Texas Trail<\/a><\/h2>\n

Hank Pickering, a board member of the Northeast Texas Trail, says the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will conduct a feasibility study of adopting the NETT as a state park.<\/p>\n

The NETT, about 130 miles long from about Farmersville to New Boston on former railroad right of way, would be the only such trail in Texas to be accepted as a state park. The 237-mile Katy Trail in Missouri has state park status. National Trail Days is Saturday, April 23 and Hank says a 5-K run and other events are planned for that day in Wolfe City. And the "Gran Fondo" bike ride on the NETT from Roxton to Clarksville is coming up Saturday, April 30. Hank says Sugar Hill Adventures in Farmersville is now offering shuttle rides on the NETT.<\/p>\n

Operation Red, White and Bike announced a special fundraiser scheduled for Saturday May 21. Organizer Larry Reid, 77, has planned to take his TREK bicycle for a ride from the Huntsville, Texas Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall to the Texas Bucket List Store in College Station. This trip is over 50 miles. He is looking to raise awareness and inviting individual and corporate sponsors to donate to Operation Red, White and Bike in connection with this event.<\/p>\n
