Going the distance: Stampede on the Chisholm Trial charity bike ride draws 116 cyclists<\/a><\/h2>\n

BELTON \u2014 A record number of 116 cyclists participated Saturday in Stampede on the Chisholm Trail, a bicycle ride benefiting Belton Lions Club charities and programs.<\/p>\n

John Corsi, club president, said the entrants showed a lot of enthusiasm for this ride, the 11th year of the event.<\/p>\n

When Lava Sunder left Houston for college in 2012, green paint was for houses and curbs denoting temporary parking. Now, ribbons of it crisscross many Houston neighborhoods, transforming thoroughfares into places where residents can opt for bike pedals over the gas pedal<\/p>\n

\u201cIt wasn\u2019t like this very long ago,\u201d she said. \u201cYou see something has changed.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sunder, who worked on car-free development in Arizona and is engaged in reducing vehicle use and e-bike adoption, drew attention when she noted in a Twitter post how different the Houston she left and the one she returned to seemed for cyclists.<\/p>\n

Gran Fondo fun: Riders celebrate completion of 5o miles of Northeast Texas Trail<\/a><\/h2>\n

Rain threatened cyclists in the early morning Saturday but by midday more than 100 riders on the Northeast Texas Trail between Roxton and Clarksville enjoyed sunshine and mild temperatures for a celebratory Gran Fondo 50 ride.<\/p>\n

The day\u2019s events in Roxton, Paris, Reno, Detroit, Bagwell and Clarksville celebrated the completion of the longest hard surface portion of the 130-mile trail between Farmersville and New Boston, which when completed will be the longest recreational trail in Texas and the fourth longest in the United States.<\/p>\n
