Bicyclist injured after being struck by driver who fled from scene<\/a><\/h2>\n

SAN ANTONIO \u2014 Police are searching for a driver who hit a bicyclist, breaking the man’s foot.<\/p>\n

It happened around 9:52 p.m. Friday on the 11900 block of I-35 near O’Connor Rd. on the northeast side of town.<\/p>\n

Police say a vehicle traveling southbound on the access road of IH 35 N. struck the victim while he was riding a bicycle in the road near the right curb.<\/p>\n

The 47-year-old man suffered a broken right foot and was taken to BAMC in stable condition to be treated for his injuries. …<\/p>\n

Christine Tucker was just a middle-school kid in Mississippi when she and her dad embarked on a mission that was ahead of its time.<\/p>\n

Mountain biking was still in its infancy \u2014 you might even say it was a zygote. It was 1977 (or \u201979) and Christine was 10 or 12 years old, she says. The youngest of six kids, her parents were so busy, \u201cthere are very few photos of my childhood,\u201d she adds. But she loved riding bikes on dirt and up hills and over jumps so much that she and her dad built , effectively, their own mountain bike prototype.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe found a bike frame in a junkyard and built it up using whatever parts we could find,\u201d she said. \u201cI think the frame was a Schwinn and I spray-painted it black. The wheels were 24 or 26 inches. My dad and I built it in our carport in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.\u201d<\/p>\n

The first time she took that slick, black machine out for a ride, \u201cMy front wheel came off and I landed on my chin and I had to get stitches,\u201d she says. \u201cMy mom wanted my dad to take the bike and throw it away because it wasn\u2019t safe. They bought me a new one but it was a road bike. I took it off road and on local dirt trails anyway.\u201d<\/p>\n

As she used bikes to launch herself off of jumps, she fell in love with the sensation of flying.<\/p>\n

Some years have passed since Tucker was the biggest tomboy bike fanatic in her Deep South neighborhood; she\u2019s 55 now and splits her time between Flower Mound, Texas, and Fraser. But she\u2019s just as crazy about mountain biking …<\/p>\n
