Can San Antonio Become a Better Bike City? Not on State Roads.<\/a><\/h2>\n

Efforts to improve the city\u2019s streets for bikers and pedestrians are being held up by the Texas Department of Transportation, which has reasserted its ownership of state roads and is focused on prioritizing traffic flow for drivers.\n\"\"\/<\/p>\n

Katie Nickas rides her bike around San Antonio every day \u2014 in the rain, in the 95-degree heat, at night, from her downtown apartment to her job near the Alamo and all around the extensive greenways. She\u2019d even ride in the snow if it would snow. It\u2019s practical, it\u2019s a hobby, and it\u2019s a point of pride for the volunteer board member at Bike SA, a local cycling advocacy group.<\/p>\n

Nickas was born in San Antonio but left when she was a baby. She grew up in southern Indiana near the Ohio River, and moved back to Texas in 2013, she says, like a salmon returning instinctively to its spawning grounds. CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 Thousands of cyclists will be riding around the Coastal Bend this weekend.<\/p>\n

On Monday, city leaders announced open registration for the 20th annual "Conquer the Coast" event.<\/p>\n

Thousands of people from near and far are expected to sign up for the bike riding event.<\/p>\n

Beaumont police make arrest after hike and bike trail attempted kidnapping<\/a><\/h2>\n

Beaumont police are reminding residents to be aware of their surroundings after a 37-year-old man was arrested after an attempted kidnapping of an adult woman at a local hike and bike trail.<\/p>\n

Officers received reports of the incident at the Gulf Terrace Hike and Bike Trail, 9201 Dishman Rd., around 9:15 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release from the Beaumont Police Department.<\/p>\n

The suspect, later identified as Jarmond James, had been "contained in the wooded area near the trail," the release said.<\/p>\n

The man was arrested for harassment and taken to the Jefferson County jail.<\/p>\n
