Photo by Renee Umsted.<\/p>\n<p>The Dallas City Council passed a bike lane ordinance this month.<\/p>\n<p>It makes it illegal to stop, stand or park a vehicle in a designated bike lane. Anyone who violates the ordinance is subject to a fine up to $200.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPassage of this ordinance today will make our bike lanes safer and help us encourage more connectivity throughout the city,\u201d District 1 City Council member Chad West said at the Sept. 14 meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Previously, stopping, standing or parking a vehicle was &#8230;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonchronicle.com\/news\/houston-texas\/transportation\/article\/bike-death-data-17446900.php?utm_campaign=socialflow&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=twitter.com\">103 bicyclists have died on Harris County roads since 2017. Aside from a slight dip in 2018, the annual total has risen each year.<\/p>\n<p>The data reviewed by the Chronicle comes from vehicle-related crash reports involving a bicyclist. She claims that on Jan. 16, 2021, the bike came apart while she was riding it which caused her to fall and break her elbow. Parker alleges Bike Barn failed to train or supervise their employee and failed to have safety policies and procedures in place.<\/p>\n<p>She also alleges Bike Barn failed to properly assemble the bike and &#8230;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/austin\/central-austin\/development\/2022\/09\/20\/travis-county-suspends-thomas-springs-road-bicycle-safety-project\/\">Travis County suspends Thomas Springs Road bicycle safety project<\/a><\/h2>\n<h4>By Katy McAfee | communityimpact.com<\/h4>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn2.communityimpact.com\/?url=https:\/\/communityimpact.com\/uploads\/images\/2022\/09\/20\/218086.jpeg&amp;w=900&amp;q=100&amp;f=jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Travis County commissioners voted unanimously Sept. 20 to suspend the bicycle safety project along Thomas Springs Road in Southwest Austin.<\/p>\n<p>The decision to suspend the project saves Travis County nearly $7 million.<\/p>\n<p>The project\u2014which was approved by voters in 2017\u2014would have added 6-foot bike lanes on either side of the 1.5-mile road and widened vehicle lanes from 10 to 12 feet.
