\u2018A long road ahead\u2019: Constant construction wreaks havoc on downtown businesses<\/a><\/h2>\n

Since it was founded in 1948, Herweck\u2019s has survived the disruption of many construction cycles \u2014 it\u2019s one of the challenges of a location on a busy downtown corner.<\/p>\n

But the art supply store\u2019s owner isn\u2019t sure it will survive this one.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re looking at construction everywhere you\u2019re trying to drive downtown,\u201d Scott Rote said of his store, whose front entrance is separated by a high chain link fence from a construction site on Broadway Street \u2014 which has been closed for over a year. \u201cA lot of people say, \u2018I don\u2019t want to go down here. It\u2019s too difficult.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Herweck\u2019s isn\u2019t alone in such struggles.<\/p>\n

On North Main Avenue, the owner of Charles A. James Bicycle Shop has been lodging complaints with the city over street parking in the area, much of which has been displaced during a street reconstruction project slated to wrap up by 2024. …<\/p>\n

The loss of parking on North Main has been a challenge for Charles A. James Bicycle Shop . Its customers have been riding or carrying their bikes for several blocks to get to the store, its front entrance hidden behind tall fences.<\/p>\n

Established in 1920, the oldest bike shop in San Antonio has suffered a sudden 40 percent drop in monthly revenue since the Weston Urban tower\u2019s construction began this year, its owner said. The staff even started a GoFundMe page to raise money to help pay bills.<\/p>\n

British star Kat Matthews, runner up at the IRONMAN World Championship at St George in May, is recovering in hospital after being hit by a car while on a training ride.<\/p>\n

Preparing for the IMWC\u2019s return to Kona on 6 October, Matthews was riding with fellow triathletes in Texas where she took part in the PTO US Open just over a week ago.<\/p>\n

Posting from her hospital bed, Matthews said on Instagram: \u201cA car turn [sic] into me and bashed me up.\u201d …<\/p>\n

Another San Antonio cyclist killed in hit-and-run on Old Highway 90<\/a><\/h2>\n

Police are investigating another cyclist that was struck and killed by a vehicle early Monday morning, September 26, while he was riding his bike on the side of the road at the 6100 block of Old Highway 90. A San Antonio police sergeant at the scene said that the man, believed to be in his 50s, was riding his bike in the grass on the side of the road when an unidentified vehicle struck the man and then fled the scene.<\/p>\n

The San Antonio Police Department said that there were no witnesses to the hit-and-run and that the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The traffic investigations detail is looking into the case. A preliminary report from SAPD said the man’s next of kin have yet to be notified.<\/p>\n

Monday September 26, 2022\n35 miles today on Route Business 80, was wonderful as 4 cars passed me on a 25 mile stretch. Once I entered I90 every 18 wheeler was out delivering. Strong headwinds were the topic of conversation when we got to Van Horn campground. They blew hard making downhills feel like uphills. Super nice to have a shorter distance day. Dropped into Asians Cafe for a latte. Talked to Ron who hailed from Maine. Our leaders brought us pizzas and we enjoyed food whilst reminding ourselves of our greater purpose – to raise monies and awareness of MS patients and their challenges. …<\/p>\n

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas \u2014 An 8-year-old boy died Monday after he was struck by an SUV while he was riding his bike in a Kingwood neighborhood, according to Texas Department of Public Safety officials.<\/p>\n

It happened at about 4 p.m. on Gallant Knight Lane just east of the Eastex Freeway near Northpark Drive.<\/p>\n

DPS officials said the boy was riding his bike in an area that isn’t safe for pedestrians or people riding bikes.<\/p>\n

He was hit by a driver in a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe, authorities said. …<\/p>\n
