Cycling is an activity that can be considered both a hobby and a means to compete. The team at UTSA welcomes all types of skill levels. In October 2021, the team celebrated one of their cyclists as a national champion in a USA Cycling mountain bike competition.\nMiles Jones is the current president of the UTSA Cycling Team. The team is considered a club sport; thus, some funding does come from the Campus Recreation Center. Medina Martinez was struck by a vehicle on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.<\/p>\n<p>Police said they have some leads they are following up but the case is still under investigation.<\/p>\n<p>According to Wichita Falls Police Sergeant Sean Sullivan, around 5:15 a.m. Monday, October 24, an &#8230;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kten.com\/story\/47551486\/driver-flees-after-boy-on-bike-struck-in-denison\">Driver flees after boy on bike struck in Denison<\/a><\/h2>\n<h4>By Walt Zwirko | www.kten.com<\/h4>\n<p>DENISON, Texas (KTEN) \u2014 Denison police are looking for the driver of a vehicle that struck a child riding a bicycle on Monday evening.<\/p>\n<p>Investigators said the incident happened around 6 p.m. in the 2500 block of Easy Street. The child is going to be okay.<\/p>\n<p>Witnesses said the driver was behind the wheel of a purple truck with a red underglow. This award recognizes efforts to increase transportation choices for all populations, reduce automobile transportation and help ease street congestion and reduce climate change. This award was announced Wednesday, October 5 to the Multimodal Transportation Department. The route takes us through some beautiful Texas hill country to Johnson city on quiet country roads but along the way the creeks that drain the area run across the normally dry roads. This is normal and local folk usually have large 4x4s. The dips between hills can become flooded with the slightest rainfall. There are signs everywhere warning of dips with running water. We came across these in New Mexico on day 15. So the scene was set for some serious water crossings.<\/p>\n<p>The wind did blow last night and I had to re secure some of my tent pegs but the storm came to nothing. I awoke early and it was a light drizzle with a slight breeze. The storm was somewhere but not directly over us.<\/p>\n<p>The country road we took was like riding on somebody\u2019s private drive and I had to check at times it was the right route. It did not drop any rain but the wind was quite vicious. Kelly and Adam thought about taking refuge in the laundry room but in the end decided to sit it out only to be awakened at 5:30 by what seemed to be the peak of the storm. I slept peacefully through all this commotion and even slept through my alarm because I had wax earplugs in which was necessary due to the close proximity of tents with occupants \u2018sawing wood\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Breakfast and coffee was a bit of a frozen affair avoiding the wind but we managed it and it wasn\u2019t long before we all left camp and headed for Austin and a well deserved rest day.<\/p>\n<p>The route today was planned for us by someone in the mapping section of the ACA headquarters in Missoula who had local experience of the roads into Austin. Again, this is one of the advantages of the trip. The route we took was undulating and typical of the Texas Hill country but moreover wasn\u2019t too high or low and the road surface was incredibly smooth. At times I was buzzing along and felt as though I was in a velodrome, I had a very big smile as I pushed Bob ever faster. Texas Day<\/h4>\n<p>Wednesday October 26, 2022, 77 miles (124 km) &#8211; Total so far: 1,096 miles (1,764 km)\nIt was a perfect day for biking! Started out very cool (40F) but warmed up quickly as the sun rose. We had a great peaceful 16 mile ride on a quiet side road early in the day. Mountains of Mexico in sight. The rest of the day was on or next to Interstate 10. Mostly on a frontage road that paralleled I-10. It was a bit noisy from the trucks, but we mostly had the road to ourselves. The locals warned us about the mountains we would have to climb today. Pfft! They were but molehills, especially compared to what we climbed in CA and NM. (Texans do have a tendency to exaggerate the size of things. But, honestly, the grasshoppers here are gigantic!!) I had some wheel worries today. First, strange popping sounds started coming from my front wheel.
