Construction on new bike lanes along Blodgett Street in Third Ward is already underway, but a Houston City Council member is holding up funds for nearby drainage improvements in an effort to slow down the bikeways project.<\/p>\n

UPDATED – Bicyclist injured when struck by a vehicle<\/a><\/h2>\n

A bicyclist was injured when he was struck by a vehicle Monday night. Jasper County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Scotty Duncan says it happened at about 8:30 on Farm to Market Road 3414 near the Westlake Community.<\/p>\n

Texas Department of Public Safety Sergeant Shana Clark later said that the bicyclist, 33-year-old Randle McShan, of Burkeville, was hit by a 2015 Jeep Patriot, driven by Hunter Montes, 18, of Jasper.<\/p>\n

Clark said both the bicycle and the Jeep were traveling southbound and the driver of the Jeep slowed down to pass the bicycle, however, she said the bicyclist went into the path of the Jeep as it was passing.<\/p>\n

McShan was rushed from the scene by ambulance to a Lufkin hospital. There’s no word on his condition.<\/p>\n

Brent Skidmore, owner of Drifted Cycles, opened Leander\u2019s first and only bicycle shop in late March.<\/p>\n

Previously, Skidmore worked in the oil industry, and his wife, Stephanie, worked as a dental office manager. After getting laid off in 2020 due to the pandemic, the Skidmore family moved to Hawaii.<\/p>\n

A few months into their time there, Skidmore and Stephanie realized they needed to focus on working again. Skidmore and his family always enjoyed riding bikes, and he thought if he were to ever open a business, it would be centered around bicycles.<\/p>\n
