Now that the city has $2.5 million to update its 2011 bike plan, cyclists in southern Dallas, long hindered by poor infrastructure and a lack of bike lanes, see this as the perfect opportunity to improve their communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the city\u2019s series of public input meetings that ended mid-November, the Department of Transportation will create a new bike plan and ask for the public\u2019s input again in early spring 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new bike plan will add trails, infrastructure, and other facilities. The Dallas Department of Transportation received $500,000 for development of the plan and $2 million from general funds for implementation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ride into the new year at Longview’s Safety City<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The Longview Parks and Recreation Department is rolling out a new holiday event just in time for the New Year, with a free holiday bike ride for children scheduled to take place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 31 at Safety City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Safety City is a miniature version of the city of Longview and is used to teach children safety tips they can utilize in real life. First opened in 1991, it simulates real traffic environments and includes an overpass, a railroad crossing, working traffic lights and major traffic signs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
