BROWNSVILLE, Texas \u2013 The first CycloBia \u201cCycling the Streets\u201d event of 2023 in Brownsville is set to bring a fun-filled experience for the whole family.<\/p>\n

The event is scheduled to take place on Friday, September 22, 2023, starting at 6:30 p.m.<\/p>\n

It will kick off on East 7th Street, which will be temporarily closed to traffic between East Ringgold Street and East Taylor Street.<\/p>\n

CycloBia is a free event that aims to transform selected streets in Brownsville into car-free zones temporarily. During the event, residents can enjoy a variety of recreational and sporting activities such aswalking, skating, biking, running, and skateboarding without the worry of vehicular traffic. \u2026<\/p>\n

It was a question they reiterated even after the public comment period in the hallway of council chambers.<\/p>\n

A month ago, more than 80 residents and supporters made the council chamber standing room only.<\/p>\n

A Metropolitan Transit Authority committee Thursday introduced a $10.5 million plan for a bike share system, just days after BCycle announced it would shut down operations because of high operational costs.<\/p>\n

The Metro board of directors will vote next week on authorizing the Metro president and CEO to sign a five-year contract with PBSC Urban Solutions to launch and operate a bike share system, which could bring around 140 e-bikes for rent to the Houston area.<\/p>\n

The potential system could also include 140 e-bikes, 20 grid-connected charging \u2026<\/p>\n

Yeah, OK, obviously those who know about this place probably want to gate-keep, but it\u2019s not like it\u2019s that big of a secret, so calm down. This pretty little trail is a nice break from the Katy Trail, which is always super packed with people who are a little too much in shape. The trestle trail goes from The Cedars to Moore Park, so it is pretty short, but there are really beautiful views of the Trinity River and the surrounding area. Drop your preconceived notions about the Dallas portion of the river \u2026 but do not get in the water. The trail is peaceful, a nice slice of nature in an otherwise desolate industrial area. Chances are you probably don\u2019t get over to the area much, so why not try something new?<\/p>\n

AMARILLO, Texas (KVII) \u2014 The Texas Brotherhood Ride, a group of dedicated first responders, is currently on its annual cross-state bike ride. The journey from Maxwell to Amarillo covers 550 miles in seven days, honoring fallen heroes along the way.<\/p>\n

This year, the ride pays tribute to 32 first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice in 2022, including two firefighters from the Dalhart Volunteer Fire Department. \u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cWhere there is a will there is a way,\u201d said Aaron Smith, who had just completed riding a bicycle 100 miles on a course around Moore County to Lake Meredith and back Saturday afternoon for the Texas Tumbleweed 100 bicycle ride\/race, the annual event put on by the Moore County YMCA as a fundraiser. Smith was competing for cash prizes with more than 20 other riders who had opted to take up the challenge of the longest of five courses. Smith did not win any money, but he was happy. He completed the course under his own power, and he was the only competitor having to pedal with a prosthetic leg.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was an awesome race,\u201d he said Saturday as he cooled down. He only made one rest stop along the way. He said he was trying to complete the course as quickly as he could. He was tempted, however, but not because of fatigue. \u201cIt was really beautiful,\u201d he said, especially at the lake. \u201cThe terrain is so different from what I am used to.\u201d Smith, from Gainesville, Texas, said he was fascinated by the cactus plants, mesquite trees, antelope, and buffalo that he passed as he pedaled up and down hills through the countryside. He said he saw some buffalo standing \u201cright next to the fence\u201d and wanted to get off and go have a closer look, but at the last minute he decided not to take the time. Smith said he had been in the Texas Panhandle before \u2014 he has distant relatives in Dalhart \u2014 but not since he was a child.<\/p>\n
