Man fatally struck by pick-up truck was traveling cross country, raising money for bicyclists injured in car crashes<\/a><\/h2>\n

CROSBY COUNTY, Texas (KCBD) – A man riding cross country to raise money for other bicyclists that have been injured in car crashes died after he was struck by a pick-up truck along the highway in Crosby County Thursday morning.<\/p>\n

62-year-old Robert Hurd, of Middletown, Connecticut, was riding his bicycle east along the shoulder of Highway 62\/82 when he was struck. Just after 9 a.m., emergency crews responded to the crash about two miles east of Lorenzo.<\/p>\n

The report stated a pick-up truck was also heading east in the outside lane. Hurd reportedly veered into the same lane and was struck by the vehicle. He died from his injuries at the scene of the crash.<\/p>\n

CROSBY COUNTY, Texas \u2014 One person is dead after a crash with a bicycle in Crosby County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.<\/p>\n

DPS identified the bicyclist as Robert Hurd, 62, of Middletown, Connecticut. Hurd was traveling eastbound along the shoulder on eastbound US Highway 82, according to DPS.<\/p>\n

DPS said a 2003 Toyota truck driven by James E. Norris Jr., 91, was traveling eastbound in the outside lane of eastbound US 82.<\/p>\n

Hurd veered into the outside lane of travel and was struck by the pickup truck, DPS said. Hurd was pronounced deceased on the scene due to the injuries sustained during the crash, DPS said.<\/p>\n

DPS said Hurd was wearing a helmet. The road conditions were dry and the weather conditions were partly cloudy, according to DPS.<\/p>\n
