From left, Theresa, Becky, Elena, Dot, Joe, Bob, Anthony and Stacey Walch. \u2014 Submitted photo<\/p>\n<p>The ups and downs of Elena Walch\u2019s 70-day charity bike ride across seven U.S. states and four Canadian territories seemed to mirror the emotional turmoil that cancer inflicts upon families all over the world.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the punishing her body received bicycling 5,890 miles on the road this past summer, Walch weathered a weeklong crying jag, numbing cold, torrential rain, painful falls and bouts of hysterical laughter. She was also the recipient of random acts of kindness and charity from strangers.<\/p>\n<p>The 2019 Fredericksburg High School graduate was part of a group of 46 University of Texas-Austin students selected to participate in the Texas4000, which is the longest annual charity bike ride in the world, according to its spokesperson.
