We didn’t get any rain on the ride today and in fact we rode in full sun after lunch. Yay.
Nothing too special about our ride except that we made it out of Texas after 19 days. We’ll be in Louisiana for the next week.
We are camping on the grounds of the Merryville Historical Society and Museum. They greeted us when we rolled in and then cooked a wonderful dinner this evening for us. We stuffed our faces with crawfish etouffee, fried shrimp, hush puppies, salad and a bunch of homemade desserts. The meal was followed by a short talk on the history of the area. It was all very wonderful.
It is going down to 36 tonight so we are all bundled up in our tents. We have one more day of this cold snap before it starts to warm up. I think we are all looking forward to that.

Basic Bike Maintenance Clinic with SRAM

By Trek Bicycle Arlington South | www.eventbrite.com

Learn how to keep your ride rolling smoothly and efficiently at our basic bike maintenance clinic with SRAM and Trek Bicycle Arlington South
Sunday, November 12 · 11am – 12:30pm CST
Trek Bicycle Arlington South
5739 Southwest Green Oaks Boulevard Arlington, TX 76017

Texas Transportation Commission awards Edinburg over $600K for improvements

by: Jesse Mendez | www.valleycentral.com

EDINBURG, Texas (ValleyCentral) — The City of Edinburg has announced it will receive $675,612 in funding from the $345 million recently allocated by the Texas Transportation Commission.

The city’s news release said the money was made available through the Texas Department of Transportation – 2023 Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program for pedestrian and bicycle projects across Texas.

The amount awarded to the city of Edinburg will be directed toward the Freddy Gonzalez Drive and Closner Boulevard Intersection Improvements Project, according to the release.

The project’s goal is to enhance the safety and accessibility of the Freddy Gonzalez Drive and Closner Boulevard intersection, to benefit pedestrians and cyclists in the community. …

USA Cycling Freestyle National Champs

Presented by USA Cycling | www.bikereg.com

Fri December 1, 2023
Longview, TX
Dodson Action Sports Complex, 1400 N 10th, Longview, TX 75601

Video: The Bike Lane – The Shop Ride

www.thechronicle.com.au

FOX 26 Reporter and bike enthusiast Tom Zizka has more in this edition of ‘The Bike Lane."

East Texas to receive bicyclist, pedestrian safety funding

by: Daisy Escatel | www.ketk.com

LUFKIN, Texas (KETK) — On Thursday, the Texas Transportation Commission approved 83 statewide construction project to help improve safety measures for bicyclist and pedestrians.

In East Texas, Lufkin’s project will cost $4.8 million and will include new sidewalks and bikeways that aim at improving access and provide safe mobility options.

Official report a $1.7 million project will also construct “more than one mile of six foot wide sidewalks along Angelina Street from Groesbeck Avenue to Abney Avenue as well as along Atkinson Drive from Angelina Street to Timberland Drive.”

In the City of Huntington, commissioners approved nearly $130,000 reserved for bicycle and …

Round the Block: The last leg

By Curtis Stoker | www.crazyguyonabike.com

Day 39 – Silsbee, TX to Merryville, LA: State #5!!

Tuesday October 31, 2023
It was a good thing we had indoor facilities last night. It got down to 44 degrees and the wind has been nonstop. We again waited until it looked like rain wouldn’t be a problem, so we didn’t get on the road until 9:30. It did work. No rain today.

However, the wind was not our friend. For weeks the wind has been coming from the southeast as we have been traveling southeast. Today we needed to travel north and guess what? It blew from the north at about 13 mph. Kind of aggravating. It seems the wind has been blowing against us most of the time.

Again I dressed and rode in my winter weather gear. I never did get too warm but I did ride comfortably. Many of the riders didn’t bring enough cold weather riding clothes.
