But the last time he was on a bicycle, he almost lost his life.<\/p>\n<p>Abughazaleh was riding through Fort Bend County with friends the morning of Nov. 4 when he said a speeding driver in a white SUV ran a red light and struck him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlmost immediately I was on the road with extreme pain, kind of on my right side to avoid my left side, which was very hurtful, yelling my head off,\u201d the Missouri City man told us.<\/p>\n<p>The driver kept on going.<\/p>\n<p>Now, Abughazaleh is in a wheelchair, facing a long road to recovery with a broken pelvis and a dislocated shoulder. \u2026<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Black Friday is here<br>What is your response to the harried salesperson when you see this message? Bicyclists must abide by the same traffic laws as motorists and other vehicles in most states since bicycles are regarded as vehicles. However, bikers are significantly more likely to suffer injuries or even die in traffic accidents since they are often less visible than traditional cars and drivers are often not paying attention.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, according to data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), more than 720 people died nationwide in bicycle\/motor vehicle collisions in 2012. What\u2019s more, analysts projected that 49,000 cyclists were hurt.<\/p>\n<p>Typically, only bicycle accidents resulting in fatalities are recorded nationwide, and the same is true for Texas.
