How do PARKners help Austin\u2019s parks?<\/a><\/h2>\n

The Austin Parks and Recreation Department does a lot of work in our parks. Maybe you\u2019ve seen us out mowing turf, pruning trees, restocking bathrooms, cleaning graffiti, emptying trash, making repairs, or taking care of 100,000 other important tasks. Hundreds of City of Austin staff dedicate their careers to serving our 361 parks.<\/p>\n

But we can\u2019t do it all. The Department could never have enough funding or time to mulch every tree, pick up every scrap of litter, or weed out every invasive plant. We can\u2019t give every park the playscape, dog-friendly water fountain, landscaping, ecological restoration, or art installation that Austinites have asked for. Austin Parks and Recreation wants more for our parks than we can give alone.<\/p>\n

Luckily, the Department is not alone. In the gap between what we can do and what Austinites deserve, we have PARKners. \u2026<\/p>\n

Annual Men Making Moves bike giveaway<\/a><\/h2>\n

Men Making Moves are prepared to give away over 500 combined bikes and electric scooters to students at their annual Christmas bike giveaway Saturday, Dec. 16, at the Navasota High School parking lot.<\/p>\n

Registration begins at 10 a.m. the day of the event and students must be registered by noon. Giveaways begin at noon. Over 150 door prizes will also be given away as well as free hot dogs, chips, drinks, pickles, snow cones and cotton candy.<\/p>\n

The giveaway is available for all students from Head Start to 12th grade regardless of where they live. Children must be present to receive a bike or scooter.<\/p>\n

Think you got the legs for this one? Endurance is the name of the game as participants compete to finish two 19.5-mile laps at Flat Rock Ranch for some sweet singletrack goodness. Bring your climbing legs, because there will be a lot of it! If that seems like too much, we also have a half-marathon category as well. The STORM Miles of DisComfort MTB Marathon is the final race of the 2023\/24 Hill Country Bicycle Works Texas Marathon Mountain Bike State Championship Series.<\/p>\n

The 2023 Jingle Bells ride is next week, 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6. The ride will leave from the parking lot at MSU's Dillard, with refreshments, after.
