Ghost Bikes Are Painful Reminders of Houston\u2019s Cyclist Death Problem<\/a><\/h2>\n

On March 7, 2019, Houston cyclist David Loya Jr., 23, was biking home from the University of Houston-Downtown, where he was a student, when he was struck at the intersection of Heights Boulevard and East Eighth Street by an HISD school bus. He died on impact.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen he passed, he was doing what he loved to do the most, which was riding a bike,\u201d says Loya\u2019s father, David Loya Sr. The elder Loya remembers his son as someone who loved music (he was known to pull out his acoustic guitar when he was around friends and family) and who was passionate about helping kids, a \u2026<\/p>\n

San Antonio Leaders Look to Revive Dormant Bike Plan<\/a><\/h2>\n

The city\u2019s 12-year-old plan to improve its bike network has made little headway. Now, city leaders hope to revitalize the effort.\n\"\"\/<\/p>\n

City leaders in San Antonio are hoping to revive the city\u2019s long-dormant bike plan, reports Andrea Drusch in San Antonio Report. The city began by overhauling the website for its bike network, which now includes route mapping and a community events calendar.<\/p>\n

According to Drusch, \u201cBiking advocates say the 2011 plan did little to facilitate biking as a means of transportation or commuting, instead favoring recreational routes and paths aimed more toward tourists.\u201d To date, around 523 of the planned 1,288 miles in the planned bike lane network have been completed.<\/p>\n
