UPDATE: Fatal vehicle-bicycle collision in South Abilene<\/a><\/h2>\n

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB\/KRBC) \u2014 A vehicle and bicyclist collided in south Abilene Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

The crash happened in the 1600 block of South 14th Street. As of 11:30 p.m., the westbound lane is closed, and the eastbound lane has been moved to one lane.<\/p>\n

According to officials on scene, a 41 year-old male cyclist was heading west on South 14th Street. It\u2019s believed that an unidentified vehicle traveling the same way struck him and left the scene. The man died on the scene and police are withholding his identity until next of kin is notified.<\/p>\n

Police are questioning someone in reference to this incident, but no arrest has been made.<\/p>\n

\u2026 According to an APD press release, the rider was traveling west on South 14th Street and struck by a vehicle that left the scene of the crash.<\/p>\n

Police identified the vehicle by a piece that fell off during the crash. Officers discovered the vehicle and driver in a south Abilene neighborhood the same evening.<\/p>\n

28-year-old Luciano Tapia of Abilene was arrested and charged with second degree felony accident involving death before being transported to Taylor County Jail.<\/p>\n

Houston\u2019s citywide bike ride returns for 2024 with a bigger party for participants<\/a><\/h2>\n

Houston\u2019s citywide bike ride is back for 2024. The 17th annual Tour de Houston will be held Sunday, April 7, Houston Mayor John Whitmire announced.<\/p>\n

With 20, 40, and 60 mile routes, the Tour de Houston serves as an optional training ride for the MS 150, the two-day, Houston-to-Austin cycling fundraiser that will take place April 27 and 28.<\/p>\n

Expected to draw more than 5,000 participants, riders will find support from bicycle mechanics along the route as well as teams of police officers and fighters. Those who need a break will find fully stocked rest stops at at the \u2026<\/p>\n

Mayor Whitmire Could Be Coming For 11th Street Next<\/a><\/h2>\n

After removing pedestrian and cycling updates to Houston Avenue due to alleged safety concerns, Houston Public Media is now reporting Mayor Whitmire\u2019s next target could be the $2.4 million in controversial changes to 11th Street in the Heights.<\/p>\n

According to the report, the mayor\u2019s office is reviewing the changes to the busy through street completed in 2023 that include bike lanes and safe crosswalks at several different intersections, particularly at Nicholson where the Heights hike and bike trail intersects with 11th. The project created some \u2026<\/p>\n
