Fort Worth Police hosting bike safety event in Northwest ISD<\/a><\/h2>\n

All Northwest ISD students and families are invited to a bike safety event hosted by the Fort Worth Police Department on Saturday, May 18, at 10 a.m. at J.C. Thompson Elementary School (440 Wishbone Lane, Haslet).<\/p>\n

Organized by certified bike officers from FWPD, the event will include presentations on crosswalk crossing safety, how to correctly maneuver safely with a bike while crossing the street, proper bike hand signals, explanations of street signs, etc.<\/p>\n

Lubbock community invited to free event to learn about bike and pedestrian safety<\/a><\/h2>\n

LUBBOCK, Texas \u2014 The City of Lubbock Parks and Recreation invited the community to a bike rodeo on May 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at 4500 Avenue U, according to a social media post.<\/p>\n

The free event will teach bike and pedestrian safety tips for kids and parents. The bike rodeo will also include vendors, music and family-friendly activities.<\/p>\n

Eventgoers will have the opportunity to enter the event\u2019s bike giveaway. \u2026<\/p>\n

MS150 ride passing through Burton<\/a><\/h2>\n

The annual Texas MS150 ride is taking place over two days this weekend and will affect roads in and around Washington County as participants bike the multiple legs from Austin or Houston to College Station.<\/p>\n

The ride is expected to travel through the Burton area starting as early as 6 a.m. Sunday and lasting through about 1 p.m., information provided about the event stated.<\/p>\n

A \u201cjump-ahead\u201d staging zone will be in \u2026<\/p>\n

Commissioners approve routine business<\/a><\/h2>\n

Washington County commissioners breezed through routine agenda items Tuesday to approve the new commercial drivers license drug and alcohol policy for county employees, an updated application for hotel occupancy tax fund grants, a right of way permit for the upcoming MS150 bike event and two contracts for events at the county expo center. \u2026<\/p>\n

\u2026 Emergency Management Coordinator Bryan Ruemke presented the right of way permit application for the upcoming MS150 bike ride, scheduled for this weekend.<\/p>\n

The expansive bike ride will pass through Burton on Sunday, including a staging area at the corner of North Railroad Street and East Texas Street where riders joining at the jump-ahead will fall in with those coming from La Grange.<\/p>\n

The permit was approved unanimously, as were the two permit applications for renting the county expo center for two upcoming birthday events. \u2026<\/p>\n

\u201cIt really wasn\u2019t about the bike ride, it was about the important vision and mission to find therapies and a cure for multiple sclerosis,\u201d said Langlotz.<\/p>\n

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – The two day MS150 bike race is this weekend and will end at Texas A&M University.<\/p>\n

KBTX spoke with rider Kathy Langlotz, who\u2019s been participating in the race for over 20 years.<\/p>\n

\u201cA group of my triathlon buddies had done the MS ride the year before and convinced me that I needed to go along and that it was a fun adventure to do on a bike. That sounded fun to me, I thought it would be a great fun to do with my triathlon buddies and it really really was,\u201d said Langlotz.<\/p>\n

That first race captured her heart. To Langlotz, it\u2019s more than just a race.<\/p>\n

MS 150 seeking volunteers for Kyle Field finish line<\/a><\/h2>\n

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – The MS 150 cycling event needs more volunteers to help at the finish line celebration in Kyle Field.<\/p>\n

Bike MS is a charity cycling event that raises money for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society\u2019s efforts in empowerment and research for people with Multiple Sclerosis. The event will be from April 27 to April 28.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt takes over 2,000 volunteers across all of our communities to come together to help make the event happen, \u201c said Andrew Davis, Senior Specialist of Volunteer Engagement for the National MS Society. \u201cWe only have about 80 or so staff members in the state of Texas, and we\u2019re anticipating anywhere between 5,000 to 6,000 riders to hit the road this weekend. Almost 250 of those volunteers, if we get all of our shifts filled, will be there at our Kyle Field finish line.\u201d<\/p>\n

Bike MS is the seventh largest charity cycling event in the country, according to the National MS Society website. Over 50,000 cyclists \u2026<\/p>\n
