The group, which raises money for research and to spread cancer awareness, had previously reached out to Blackbird Lodging to facilitate a place where the team could eat and spend the night. (KPLC) &#8211; The Texas 4000 Bikers Against Cancer is a non-profit group where bikers trek thousands of miles to spread awareness against cancer.<\/p>\n<p>University of Texas at Austin students chose to embark on the Ozark Trail that runs through Southwest Louisiana because of its connections to Cancer Alley, an approximately 85-mile stretch of communities along the banks of the Mississippi River between New Orleans and Baton Rouge, where communities exist side by side with some 200 fossil fuel and petrochemical operations.<\/p>\n<p>The bikers have been training for months. Vernon was born on October 8,1932, in Denver, CO, to Annie Elizabeth LeRossignol Duke and Vernon Johnson Duke. He graduated from South Side High School (1950) in Rockville Centre, NY, and continued his education at Colorado State University on an ROTC scholarship. Vernon began his career in Fire Protection with FIA in Charlotte, NC. This is when he met Ida Lee. Vernon served his country as a B-25 pilot in the Air Force, and he and Ida Lee were married on March 31, 1956 in Enid, OK, where Vernon was in flight training. Their first child, Elizabeth Anne arrived in 1957. After discharging from the Air Force, Vernon returned to FIA. Their second child, Janet Lillian, was born in 1962. In 1966 Vernon secured a Fire Protection Engineering position at Sandia National Labs in Albuquerque, NM. He retired 29 years later in 1995. The lawsuit alleges negligence after Buckner was struck by a vehicle driven by Mark, an employee of Quest Diagnostics, while he was riding his bicycle.<\/p>\n<p>The incident occurred on November 23, 2022, when Buckner was crossing Park Ridge Way in Harris County.
