Not the four-lane boulevard used by motor vehicles, to be sure, but the sidewalk erected after the Great Storm of 1900. At a contiguous 10.3 miles, apparently it\u2019s the longest of its kind in the entire U.S.<\/p>\n<p>At dawn or dusk, the vista across the Gulf of Mexico can be so stunning it\u2019s hard to imagine wanting to be anywhere else but that sidewalk, or ever wanting to leave. On a cloudless weekend afternoon, especially during the summer, that same sidewalk can look like a chaotic jumble of bicycles, surrey bikes, ebikes, \u2026<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ksat.com\/news\/local\/2024\/08\/27\/conversation-about-bike-safety-speeding-up-in-san-antonio\/\">Video: Conversation about bike safety speeding up in San Antonio<\/a><\/h2>\n<h4>Avery Everett | www.ksat.com<\/h4>\n<p>Cycling advocates are calling on the city to keep momentum going when it comes to safety<\/p>\n<p>SAN ANTONIO \u2013 It\u2019s a conversation picking up speed in San Antonio: bike safety.<\/p>\n<p>Just two weeks ago, a 63-year-old woman riding her bike was hit and killed by a vehicle on the city\u2019s South Side.<\/p>\n<p>And then, just days later, on the west side, a cyclist was sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being hit by a vehicle at Loop 1604 and Culebra.<\/p>\n<p>In both cases, police say the drivers weren\u2019t impaired or distracted. These bicycle races have specific times and prizes will be awarded to the winners. The day will feature 15-, 20-, 40-, and 50-minute races for men and women. Racing begins at 10:20 am, with the last one beginning at 5:42 pm.<\/p>\n<p>The second day\u2019s agenda will be Cyclo-Cross. It will start at 10:20 am and the last race will begin at 3:02 pm.<\/p>\n<p>The closing Sunday will be TMBRA Cross-Country day. He died at the scene. The driver of the vehicle. 39-year old Kevin Sapp is charged with intoxication manslaughter. Thompson. He was the first-born child of Martha (Sprugel) Thompson and Archie Thompson, arriving on a cold day in December of 1945 in Iowa Falls, Iowa.<\/p>\n<p>Having grown up on an Iowa farm, he established a strong work ethic and moral compass for a lifetime of commitment to the world around him. A steadfast commitment to family, employment, civic contributions, generosity for those less fortunate, and the nurturing and attentiveness of his faith served as bedrock for all the rest. \u2026<\/p>\n<p>\u2026 His Parker County community work included 10 years of volunteer service with the Ride for Heroes bicycle ride as a board member and board chair, Aledo ISD student mentor, the Rotary Club of Weatherford, and the Aledo ISD Growth Committee. He was also his wife, Kathryn\u2019s biggest fan and number one volunteer at every nonprofit she was involved with.
