Ham, cabbage and black eye peas are the tradition for the first day of the year and I added a bike ride for good measure. The clear skies and 62 degrees called real loud. The wind at 15 mph made the 62 degrees seem cooler than it was. I wanted to get a good start to the year. Tomorrow the temperature is not supposed to make it to 60 degrees so this looked like the best chance to ride. A number of walkers and joggers were on the trails. The Motobcane 700HT MTB was a good ride in the dirt section even though it was still soft from the rain on Thursday. This dirt section borders the drainage bayou between the two main east-west streets in Kingwood.<\/p>\n

This year’s goal is 5200 miles. I expect this to be reachable since I am retiring at the end of July. I will have to caution myself though against the retirement exercise make up syndrome I have mentioned several times here. This is when a person retires and then tires to make up for not exercising as much as they wanted to when they worked.<\/p>\n

The monthly and year to date mileage number is easy today: 14.42.<\/p>\n
