The Hotter’n Hell 100 bike ride is about a month away. This evening’s ride was a good practice for riding in the heat and low humidity. When I started to ride the temperature at IAH airport was 100 degrees with the heat index at 105. Earlier today I was checking the weather in Wichita Falls and it was 108 degrees. Now this does not always hold true until the end of August but I think this year the ride will be a hot one if this is any indication. At my home weather station it was 98 degrees and 41% humidity when I started and 91 degrees with 49% humidity at the finish of the ride. The wind was out of the southeast at 6 mph when I began and 13.8 mph at the end. No other riders were out sweating with me though. It is supposed to get hotter as the week gets older. I rode 25.3 miles today at an average speed of 14.8 mph and a max speed of 27.7 mph (not sure where that was) and an average cadence of 79.9 RPM.<\/p>\n
