Summer ’16
By Marc Brooks
www.crazyguyonabike.com
Introduction
Jay, Paul, & Marc decided in June to take another trip similar to our 2013 trip, from the Texas Panhandle to Fort Collins, CO. Leaving Texas before the July 4th holiday should get Paul to Colorado in time to ride the Triple Bypass (120 miles over 3 mountain passes in 1 day). Jay and Marc will spend a couple days touring the Fort Collins area while Paul joins up with friends for the Bypass. Our route will vary slightly from the last trip, but stay mostly on …
The Route
A sketch of our route. We’ve found some good places to camp on this route. Here’s a few that we know of: Dumas, TX – free camping (and RV hookups) at Texhoma Park Elkhart, KS – free camping and showers at Pool Park by Sheriffs Office (check in first) Syracuse, KS – South Park (other cgonab writers have stayed there) Tribune, KS – free camping at park by Fairgrounds and pool. This is on the national …
Day 1. Dumas, TX to Stratford, TX
Thursday June 30, 2016, 35 miles (56 km) – Total so far: 35 miles (56 km)
All three of us worked today, so our start was at 6:30 pm. There was rain all around us. It stayed that way all the way to Stratford. As we entered town, the Lightning became severe. We headed straight to our destination, the First Christian Church. Paul had arranged for us to stay there. As soon as we arrived, the hail started pounding the windows, and we were so thankful for such …
Day 2: Stratford, TX to Elkhart, KS
Friday July 1, 2016, 62 miles (100 km) – Total so far: 97 miles (156 km)
It rained really hard during the night last night. It was still raining lightly as we left town. We headed up US 54 to Texhoma, but not before we diverted disaster by fastening the straps on Jays bag. They were flapping wildly, and we’re about ready to get snarled up in the spokes. I suppose we’ll take loose straps over Jay showering in the women’s room like he did on a prior trip. Our ride to Texhoma was very dark, slightly wet, and into an east/southeast wind. Even in the wind, we made Tehoma, 20 miles down the road, in 2 hours. Paul picked a Mexican food place on the highway, and for $5.25 you could get a massive breakfast burrito and coffee. It was the perfect fuel for the next 42 miles. The wind stayed mostly at …

Texas Bicycle Accident Caused by a Dog
By Carabin & Shaw, P.C
www.texasinjurylawyersblog.com
In Ochoa-Cronfel v. Murray, a Texas appellate court considered a personal injury case in which the plaintiff was hurt after the defendant’s dog ran into his bicycle. The case arose when the plaintiff was biking in his neighborhood. The defendant was walking his dog and put the dog’s leash under his foot while he scooped up the dog’s waste. The dog broke free and ran into the front tire of the plaintiff’s bike. The plaintiff was thrown off the bike and …
