A Chilly Start, 200+ Miles For The Week, Other Cyclists and Solid Patch Job
A chilly start on today’s bike ride when I put the CamelBak on ice water started running down the back of my shorts. Moving quickly to the kitchen sink I took the CamelBak off, loosened and retightened the lid and dried it off. When I put it back on the leak was stopped and the ice water stayed inside. I rolled out the driveway on the Canyon Endurace at 8:13 AM biking the “Atascocita – Huffman – Walden” route for the 6th time this year.
I like this route on Saturday because I usually see many cyclists along FM 1960 and east of Lake Houston. Today’s ride covered 34.73 miles moving the week’s and June) total to 211.08 miles, 26% of the way to my 800 mile goal for June. So far this year leads all of my previous years as shown in this charts.
My rolling studio continues to evolve. After yesterday’s ride I tightened the frame attachment screw a little which improved the vibrating movement but some rough streets still cause the camera to tilt back a small amount but I can move it back. For some in today’s video the sound did not record around mile 12 but then came back in the next clip as I neared Fairlake Drive. After the ride I couldn’t figure out how to remove the GoPro from the frame until I located a small latch on the bottom left.
My patching work on yesterday’s ride held firm overnight after I aired the tires up to 90 psi. Today’s ride was firm but not too harsh with the 90 psi. I thick that contributes to the GoPro mounting vibrating back during the ride on rough streets. The Canyon Endurace reached 17,024 miles on this ride and the current set of tires were installed at 10,333 miles. The front tire looks good with the wear dots still showing while the rear tire shows wear but some of the wear dots still show. The most miles I got from a set of tires was 7,000 so at least the rear tire may need to be replaced soon, especially since I had 2 flats in the last week.
What nice weather for biking. Blue sky and a light breeze welcomed me as I rode south and east. My attire: bike shorts, Texbiker short sleeve jersey, and blue arm sleeves. Weather while I biked: start 78 (89% humidity, 74.4 dew point), fair, wind N 5 mph. Finish 90 (66% humidity, 77.2 dew point), a few clouds, wind NE 14 mph. Tropical Storm Cristobal works its way north and east of Texas towards Louisiana influencing our weather with heat and humidity. I was glad to finish at 11:05 AM to avoid the hotter part of the day.
