Will I Become A Mountain Goat Biking in Zwift? 2nd Day Over 1,400 Ft. Climbing
Without doing any research I thought today’s Zwift bike ride was in France. The French ride description and a course name i wasn’t familiar with added to my mistake. It wasn’t until the KOM when I saw Yorkshire that I realized I wasn’t riding in France. According to ZwiftInsider.com (where I should’ve looked before the bike ride), “One of six routes rolled out with Zwift’s UCI 2019 Worlds map, “Royal Pump Room 8†is a “figure of 8†route which covers all roads in both directions. This is the longest Yorkshire route in game.” The ride lasted 60 minutes but I had no idea how much climbing would be in that time. I ended up biking 14.91 miles and climbing 1,490 feet. This is two days in a row with over 1,400 feet of climbing. My legs are getting a workout. Next Zwift bike ride needs to be a flat one. There were 16% climbs where I slowed to 3 or 4 mph. The pace was open with no fence though I did see a sweep who eventually passed me. I stayed with the first group for about 10 minutes before getting dropped and picked up by the following group. Around 40 minutes I lost contact with groups and soloed to the finish.

The profile in Zwiftpower.com and Stava show a hilly course with no many flat or descending stretches. I shift gears a lot which I don’t do much when ride the roads around home where it is flat. Without the full results in Zwiftpower I placed 15th though the bike ride wasn’t a race. The Zwift event information reports 418 people registered. I earned a new personal record on the New Yorkshire KOM according to Zwift. Strava showed 4 medals: 1 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze. When I finished the bike ride I noticed at the top of the companion app that 44,414 people were using Zwift.
