New Year, New Goals. Checked On San Jacinto Bayou Greenway
New Year’s Day bike ride to start 2023. I thought I would ride a longer distance than New Year’s Day last year but I was 1 mile short today. My road mile goal for January is 300 miles. Maybe the weather will cooperate. Today’s 29.1 miles was 10% of the goal. The year’s road miles goal is 7900 and Zwift miles is 900.
After getting home from church I waited for the fog to burn off a little more. While I was waiting I worked on the rear shifting on my Cervelo Caledonia bike to get it shift better from the #9 cog to the #8. I used the SRAM app to make the micro adjustment and I think it shifts quieter and without the grinding delay.
I rolled out on the ride at 12:48 PM riding my Lynskey Helix bike. I chose the Forest Cove – Oakhurst – Valley Ranch route. I want to see how the new segments of the San Jacinto Bayou Greenway looked since my previous ride December 9th when the workers were still cleaning up. The work looks complete as far as the City of Houston’s portion. Now Harris County needs to work on their section through Edgewater Park to US59. 3 cyclists passed me at the Marina Drive entrance to the greenway. I don’t remember seeing other cyclists there before.
With the fog covering the sun I wore shorts, a long sleeve jersey, and a short sleeve jersey over that. Wind was light from the west but it seemed to be stronger from other directions. My legs were ready for the ride and I built my overall average speed up to 13.9 mph before it settled back to 13.7 mph when I finished at 3:02 PM.
As the last week of 2022 and overlapping 1 day with 2023 I rode each day for a total of 177.1 miles. It took a mixture of Zwift rides and road rides. One ride i got soaked from the rain but fortunately it wasn’t cold. The two maintenance notes were when the new SRAM Rival Quarq cranksets were installed on the two bikes.
