About Texbiker.net

Texbiker.net covers the news, events and resources for those interested in Texas bicycling.

My bicycling passion was rekindled in 1979 with a Huffy bicycle from Woolco. From early rides around my neighborhood my enthusiasm grew to tackle my unsupported first century. From there I discovered organized rides all over Texas, races and mountain bikes. Many bikes and miles later the enthusiasm is still there.

Thanks to my late wife, Hazel Marie, for her support over the many years, miles and rides.

My primary bike is the Cervelo Caledonia Rival AXS below. My titanium bike is the Lynskey Helix titanium. My newest bike is a Canyon Endurace CF 7 Rival eTap.

2024 STORM Miles of DisComfort MTB Marathon

by Jeff Jordan | stormmtb.org

Think you got the legs for this one? Endurance is the name of the game as participants compete to finish two 19.5-mile laps at Flat Rock Ranch for some sweet singletrack goodness. Bring your climbing legs, because there will be a lot of it! If that seems like too much, we also have a half-marathon category as well. The STORM Miles of DisComfort MTB Marathon is the final race of the 2023/24 Hill Country Bicycle Works Texas Marathon Mountain Bike State Championship Series.

Chainbreaker 10/50 MTB Race (2024 STX MTB Race Series – Race #1 XCM)

allevents.in

The Chainbreaker 10/50 continues the past traditions of the 6-Hour MTB Race, the Chainbreaker 100k, and David’s various birthday races (6 for 46, 7 for 47, and 8 for 48) hosted at the fast and twisty, Monte Bella Trails and Park in Brownsville, Texas.

We will continue with a relay-style XCM (cross-country marathon) MTB race that can be raced solo or on a team of 2, 3, or 4 people. For the event, racers will do 10 laps around Monte Bella, for a total of 50 miles. Podiums for the Top 3 for each category, and a …

Fit Camp Day 6: The Queen Stage Manvel, Texas

Lovely roll with great company out west to Damon to hit roughly 15 miles of legit gravel. A route starting in Brazos Bend State Park, riding all of the gravel in the park, and then hitting the loop we did outside of the park would be pretty epic for the south side of Houston. On the performance side, I mixed in a fair amount of tempo given we are nearing a recovery week. 70-80g carbs per hour was a key focus today and I never felt a bonk even with the volume of the last several weeks. Great way to cap off the year

2023 Birthday Bike Ride On Northeast Texas Trail NETT

Nathan Chaney | www.youtube.com

When I turned 20 I started a quasi-tradition of riding my bike 10 miles each year I’ve been alive on my birthday. This year called for 370 miles but I rounded down to 37 instead, ha! I took this as an opportunity to do my first gravel ride on my Giant Revolt 2 Advanced and my first ride on the Northeast Texas Trail (NETT).

I plotted a course a course through easy-to-remember town names that totaled about 37 miles. The route ended up being Detroit to Paris to Ben Franklin. The middle 40% of the route was paved which was quite nice and allowed my Teravail Washburn center-slick gravel tires to show their stuff.

For those looking to …

Started at Zilker Park under MoPac and rode to South Congress and the Capital building before gettting on the hike and bike trail around Town Lake

From family to family

By Jennifer Johnson | www.theexaminer.com

Reaud family and friends gift Christmas to more than 1,000 children

Getting ready for Christmas is a gargantuan undertaking for the family of Beaumont attorney and philanthropist Wayne A. Reaud, as the family-fueled Reaud Charitable Foundation undertakes the massive task of bringing joy and presents to 1,000 children – or more – every year in Southeast Texas. Through the “Bicycles and Bibles” program, which has grown exponentially over the last two decades, tens of thousands of children in Southeast Texas have spent Christmas morning with a brand-new bike to ride and a brilliantly-illustrated children’s Bible to read of the Good News that Christmas signifies.

Each child served by the Bicycles and Bibles program is also presented a plethora of presents to unpack for Christmas – roughly $2,000 worth of assorted goodies to astound the brighteyed recipients. In addition to new Mongoose bicycles and storybook Bibles, …

A constable’s deputy is a legend in Houston’s bicycle community and he doesn’t even bike

Akhil Ganesh by Akhil Ganesh | houstonlanding.org

Deputy Joe Bowden is not a biker. He actually laughs at the idea, glancing down at his own belly before chuckling and shaking his head when asked.

“No,” Bowden answered lightly, eyes twinkling at his own sense of humor.

Ask around Houston’s bicycle community, however, and you’ll hear about the man that one cyclist called “The Bike Whisperer.”

So how does a constable’s deputy who doesn’t bike end up a local legend in Houston’s biking community?

The answer is easy. Just solve hundreds of bike theft cases, reuniting cycling enthusiasts with their beloved modes of transportation, while still serving the …
